When we left Sitka, we were really sad to be leaving wonderful friends and a great place to live. We had the good luck of having some really nice weather for our ferry ride down south and the kids were very excited to be on a “pirate ship.” Then, as we were about an hour away from Sitka, we heard an announcement from the captain over the PA.

“Will Shana, Scott, Madison, and Max please make their way to the boat deck for a farewell flyby. Shana is a pilot for the Coast Guard and has served in Sitka for over two years and Air Station Sitka would like to say Thank You.”

They repeated this several times and as we got to the side rail on the fairy and started to get excited, the many other people near us realized that it was US they were talking about and thankfully took some photos. The reason I am so thankful is that I never thought of taking out my camera since I was holding Madison.

Thankfully, someone else had taken great photos and sent them to me a few days ago and I can now share this wonderful moment!

A great photo of the flyby.

It is the angle that makes this look so odd, I think.
