I am not used to the heat here, yet.  The good news is that my in-laws have a great pool in the back yard that is nice and cool.  I think I will be spending most of my waking hours in that thing.  We had a wonderful time in Portland… the coffee shops, the restaurants, the best book store ever invented by God Himself, the zoo, and the parks… it was all super sweet.  We also had a great time with our great friends the Lowry’s and our time at the beach.

I would totally write more on this, but I am exhausted beyond belief.

Connections are horrid on this ferry, but we are having a great time!  We had a nice visit in Ketchikan and you can see a few photos that I sent to my mom from my cell phone on her blog.  We took a taxi into town and walked around all the shops.  It rained most of the time but we wound staying pretty dry.  We went into the visitors center and asked if the horse drawn carrage tour had any discounts for locals, and the nice lady let us go for free!  Before our tour, we ate at a nice restaurant and I had fresh Halibut fish and chips… very good.

The tour was a lot of fun and the girl who gave the audio tour had some really cheesy jokes.  After that, we walked to a hole-in-the-wall burger joint for shakes and then got a cab back to the ferry.  It was a fun day and Madison slept like a bear for a nap.

We are now off the coast of Canada and I have a new blog that I will start soon… (and I will have all these posts on it too.)

Leave a comment for us!  We can read them!

There is a really REALLY weak signal to the internet on our ferry, so I am only able to post text.

We had a nice send-off from Sitka yesterday…  Madison got to go to one last playgroup with her friends and Shana’s work friends also showed up at the ferry terminal to say good bye.  After we had cast off, the sun came out again and then the captian said over the PA “Shana Donaldson…. Shana, Scott, Madison, and Max… you are requested on the portside boat deck for a final farewell..”

As we went to the boat deck, a helicopter HH-60 from work did a few fly-bys very close.  It made us choke up.

Today we are in Ketchican all day, so we will get a chance to get off the ship.

It has been very stressful and exciting these past few weeks.  I have tried to make this blog a kind of connection for our families to see us and engage us as we are so far up north, and now our time in the snow is about to end.  I will keep this blog trucking along for another month until I decide what to do next.. (design a new one?  just change the name?  stop all together?)  but I will give it time.

We have moved out of our old home today and the movers are just finishing up all that mess with boxes and bubble-wrap.  It is kind of odd to walk through the skeleton of a home and see how much room you have when nothing is there to fill it.  The kids were stressing out a bit too… so when we moved into the Fairweather Suites, they were overjoyed.  They took a bath together tonight and splashed each other like crazy… it was a relief for me, too.

Last week, we drove around Sitka and tried to take some “family photos” to help us remember how hard it is to get our kids to sit still.  It worked.  We even drove up Harbor Mountain Drive where there was still snow, just to see if we could get a nice view, but the clouds didn’t work with us.

We will miss this place, but we have missed the lower 48, too.

Wordpress is acting up too, so you can see all the photos here: clicky to see
