Our Disneyland Vacation

We are back now from our big trip to Disneyland. It was a great time and it really went quite well for traveling 7 hours with a three year old and a 1 year old. I was worried that it was going to be ridiculously crowded in the park, but I found that it really wasn’t too bad after a few beers. There were a few things I learned on this trip:
- No matter where you go, anything can be Disneyland: when we went into the park, we had a great time. Madison loved the rides, and the few that Max could go on, he seemed to like, too. But the big event each day was heading back to the hotel and going swimming. By the second day there, we would be walking back to the hotel, and Madison would say “Yay!! I’m going to Disneyland, now!” and then she would shriek with glee when she got in the pool. Ah-well.
- If you have tiny kids, it’s worth paying to be close: when we got up, it was easy to go to the park and when they crashed from exhaustion, it took only a few minutes to get back to the beer room. When they are older, we will take a shuttle to the park and get a suite so we have more room.
- Food is expensive: it was really not cool paying $18 for a sandwich and chips. But we did pack in a lot of our own food.
- It is not the happiest place on earth: there were a lot of unhappy kids there that were dragged onto rides by their parents. I took Madison on a few rides that she may or may not have liked, but she loved it all. We had a great time, but I was not happy seeing crappy parents mistreating their kids or forcing them to ride Space Mountain. Madison did love the Pirates of the Caribbean.
- St. Patrick’s Day is Fun at Disneyland: ’nuff said.
- My wife can’t drink coffee and walk at the same time: on our second day there, early in the morning, she spilled coffee on white shirt three times. Can’t say I’m shocked, but that was a bummer.
In all, we had a great time and our hotel room, though small, was just right. Here are some photos and I am not going to caption any of them because they are pretty self-explanatory. I have some video for later, too.

So fun. Wish I could spend some time with Disneyland with you! I hope your spring break was awesome. I’m happy to have it this week. Though it’ll be full of work. See you soon!

I’m glad they updated Pirates, because that was one of my very favorite rides, but it was getting a little long in the tooth the last time I was there.
I used to live about 15 minutes away from there, and as I recall they had a “locals” price that was pretty reasonable. Once in a while my friends and I would cut class and hang out there. Going there right at opening on an off-season weekday was great, because the park was practically deserted. (This was 20 years ago…I wonder if it’s still like that today.)
Did you guys go anywhere else in the area, like Knott’s Berry Farm?

B:We actually stayed at the Disney Hotel and pretty much kept close to the park. When the kiddos are older, we will certainly go other places, but there is only so much they can do. Also, the park is more than doubled in 20 years! With the “California” park added on, its a mammoth of a place.
Cutting class to go to Disneyland? That would have been SO much fun…

I’m right there with you Scott, when the kids get older we will go to an off sit hotel and take a shuttle. Our kids loved the pool too and the rainforest cafe. I also think we have an identical picture of Tim & Reagan on the same roller coaster as you and Madie.

What was Shana thinking even packing a white shirt? She is my sister, but we are known worldwide for the ability to spill on our clothes. : ) Love you sister!!! I do love the festive St. Patrick’s Day shirts. Everyone looks wonderful. Miss you all.
